Water Song Of The Week - Singin' In The Rain - Gene Kelly PDF Print E-mail
Written by WaterMan
Saturday, 05 December 2009

Now this is happy ...

In "Singin' In The Rain", Gene Kelly illustrates how falling in love can be so joyful ...

In the film, Debbie Reynolds as Kathy Selden. Gene Kelly as Don Lockwood.

Kathy & Don: Kiss.

Don: Goodnight Kathy, see you tomorrow.

Kathy: Goodnight Don, take care of that throat. Your a big singing star now, remember? This California dew is just a little heavier than usual tonight.

Don: Really? From where I stand, the sun is shining all over the place.

Kathy & Don: Kiss.

If you can believe - in its 1952 release "Singin' In The Rain" opened to less than glowing reviews. Now it is ranking in the top 5 of the greatest American films ever made.

Ahhh .... Love ... <3

Perhaps it might be nicer to think of others before you use up all the water.
Water conservation, now that's a novel idea.

Bruce Lee On Water ... PDF Print E-mail

Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water my friend.

Think ...

Thanks Bruce.

Chug Some Of This - B'eau Pal Water PDF Print E-mail

B'eau-Pal: Our Story - The unique qualities of our water come from 25 years of slow-leaching toxins at the site of the world's largest industrial accident. To this day, Dow Chemical (who bought Union Carbide) has refused to clean up, and whole new generations have been poisoned.

Leave it my friends The Yes Men ... (kudos to Andy Bichlbaum and Mike Bonanno)

They came out with very effective prank that has Dow running scared from the infamous Bhopal disaster of 1984 - that still is poisoning the groundwater of Bhopal, India after 25 years.

Introducing B'eau Pal Water ...

After 25 Years, Bhopal Water Poison PDF Print E-mail
Written by WaterMan
Friday, 04 December 2009

Activists and victims of the Bhopal gas leak shout slogans during a protest march to mark the 25th anniversary of the disaster in Bhopal, India, on Thursday. - Picture Credit - Altaf Qadri/AP

You would be angry too ...

From the Christian Science Monitor ...

It was the deadliest industrial accident in history. On Dec. 3, 1984, clouds of poisonous gas leaked from a pesticide factory in Bhopal, India, and were carried on the breeze to nearby slums, killing 4,000 people in one day. Over the next few years, countless more died.

Now, over 25 years later, after almost 20,000+ deaths and damaged health of over 200,000 people ... the groundwater of Bhopal, India has been severely compromised.

The groundwater contains nearly 40 times more pesticides than the level considered safe. Around the factory itself, the pesticide levels are 560 times higher.

Wow ... Unbelievable ...

What happened in Bhopal?

On the night of Dec. 2nd and 3rd, 1984, a Union Carbide plant in Bhopal, India, began leaking 27 tons of the deadly gas methyl isocyanate. None of the six safety systems designed to contain such a leak were operational, allowing the gas to spread throughout the city of Bhopal. Half a million people were exposed to the gas and 20,000 have died to date as a result of their exposure. More than 120,000 people still suffer from ailments caused by the accident and the subsequent pollution at the plant site.

These ailments include blindness, extreme difficulty in breathing, and gynecological disorders. The site has never been properly cleaned up and it continues to poison the residents of Bhopal. In 1999, local groundwater and wellwater testing near the site of the accident revealed mercury at levels between 20,000 and 6 million times those expected. Cancer and brain-damage- and birth-defect-causing chemicals were found in the water; trichloroethene, a chemical that has been shown to impair fetal development, was found at levels 50 times higher than EPA safety limits. Testing published in a 2002 report revealed poisons such as 1,3,5 trichlorobenzene, dichloromethane, chloroform, lead and mercury in the breast milk of nursing women. In 2001, Michigan-based chemical corporation Dow Chemical purchased Union Carbide, thereby acquiring its assets and liabilities. However Dow Chemical has steadfastly refused to clean up the site, provide safe drinking water, compensate the victims, or disclose the composition of the gas leak, information that doctors could use to properly treat the victims.

Yes, that is true - both Union Carbide and its new owner Dow Chemical - the infamous maker of Agent Orange - have refused to clean up the Bhopal site. That is just plain obnoxious, heartless and I say evil.

What can you do ...

  1. Call Andrew Liveris , CEO Dow Chemical  @ (989) 636-1000 - Tell him to clean up Bhopal.
  2. Support The Bhopal Medical Appeal.
  3. See some Bhopal tragedy pictures.
  4. Get rid of all your pesticides now.
  5. Tell your friends about Bhopal and what happened and what is still happening there.
  6. Share some healthy water with someone.
Count your blessings ... Life is precious ...

Thanksgiving Water Prayer PDF Print E-mail

WATER PRAYER

Give thanks to H2O this Thanksgiving - with a prayer ...

THANKSGIVING FOR WATER ... From Signs, Songs and Stories, Virginia Sloyan, ed. 1974 by the Liturgical Conference, Inc., Washington, D.C

Use this prayer to bring a little eco to your house of worship.

[Children gather at the front in a large semicircle and are divided into four groups The worship leader reads the prayer while the various groups express the prayer through movement (see diagram)]

All:
Father in heaven,
we thank and praise you
for your goodness.

all movement is done deliberately

Group 1:
We thank you for water that
refreshes as it rains down on
the earth after it has been
warmed by the sun.

downward movement of arms in a circle in front of the body

Group 4:
We thank you for water
that rushes over rocks and
down mountainsides;
as it cleanses us of the impurities of our own deeds.

flowing movement as though water

Group 2:
We thank you, Father, for water
that quenches our thirst;
that makes us ready to
speak your word fresh each day.

upward movement begining at chin

Group 3:
We thank you for water,
that gives new life to
the hidden seed
to the giant oak,
and to the rivers of our earth.

bowing movement from waist

Remember, there is more than turkey on this glorious day of thanks.

Water Song Of The Week - Oceans - Pearl Jam PDF Print E-mail
Written by WaterMan
Sunday, 08 November 2009

Hold on to the thread ... The currents will shift ...

Pearl Jam - formed in the Grunge movement in 1990's Seattle and dissed by Kurt Cobain ... has fast become one of the most influential bands of our time. This video of there rare unplugged version of "Oceans" is simply soulful.

Here is a little from Wikipedia ...

Pearl Jam is an American rock band that formed in Seattle, Washington in 1990. Since its inception, the band's line-up has included Eddie Vedder (lead vocals, guitar), Jeff Ament (bass guitar), Stone Gossard (rhythm guitar), and Mike McCready (lead guitar). The band's current drummer is Matt Cameron, formerly of Soundgarden, who has been with the band since 1998.
Enjoy.

NY Enacts 5 Cent Water Bottle Deposit PDF Print E-mail
Written by WaterMan
Thursday, 29 October 2009

Starting Oct 31, NYS will charge a 5-cent deposit fee for for each bottle of water purchased

You want bottled water in NY? Now you will have to pay more for the privilege.

In a clear victory for recycling and the NY State coffers, New York joined the states of California, Connecticut, Oregon and Delaware to finally enact a water bottle deposit law. From Mother Nature Network ...

In a win for the environment, New York will expand its deposit laws to include water bottles starting Oct. 31. A five-cent surcharge will be added to the cost of each water bottle sold, which customers can then return to stores for a refund. About 80 percent of unclaimed deposits will go to the state as much-needed revenue, resulting in some $115 million annually.

$115 million dollars that ain't chump change for a state that is in the red due to these economic times. But there is a lot more green to be had ...

Nationally, Americans buy an estimated 28 billion plastic water bottles annually. An estimated eight out of every 10 bottles will end up in a landfill. By giving people a monetary incentive to recycle, less waste will enter the landfill.

Plus, the 5 cent deposit is gonna add $2.20 to a case of bottled water people normally buy in the supermarket. Maybe bottled water consumers will think again before making a purchase. Especially since tap water is so much less expensive - and relatively FREE.

With the upsurge in people filtering their own water and with increasing bad press - will the bottled water craze end? Or, will it be a continuation of the long decline of bottled water industry? Any way you slice it, it is high time we empower ourselves around the 'elixir of life' and take our water back from those who would sell us what we already own.

Still interested, see the great video below the fold ...
